Interior Secretary makes renewable energy a top priority

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar today has issued a secretarial order making the production, development and delivery of renewable energy top priorities for his department.

Salazar cited the need to reduce the nation´s dependence on foreign oil, build a clean energy economy and job creation in issuing the order March 11.

ôMore so than ever, with job losses continuing to mount, we need to steer the country onto a new energy path,ö Salazar said.

Salazar’s order establishes an energy and climate change task force to identify areas on public lands where the Interior Department can spur rapid development of large-scale solar, wind, geothermal and biomass energy facilities.
