TVA plans to restore area affected by coal sludge
spill
March 4
The Tennessee Valley Authority plans to restore the area hit by a massive
coal sludge spill, potentially leaving it in better shape than it was before
the spill.
The utility submitted its Corrective Action Plan to the Tennessee Department
of Environment and Conservation and the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, March 2. It outlines the steps TVA will take to clean up after the
Dec. 22 spill, which released some 5.4 million cubic yards of fly ash and
bottom ash from a containment pond. One of its objectives is to make "things
as good, if not better than they were before."
A copy of the plan is available at TVA´s Web site, www.tva.gov.
