China Biggest Offshore Wind Power Set Rolled off

YANCHENG, May 18, 2009 -- SinoCast Daily Business Beat

Chinese aerogenerator manufacturer Sinovel Windtec Co., Ltd. yesterday rolled out the 3MW offshore power generation set, the biggest one of its likes in China, which signified a great breakthrough in the country's wind power development.

In July 2008, the company spent CNY 3 billion building a large-scale wind power equipment R&D and manufacturing base in the eastern wind power-rich city of Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, covering Shandong, Shanghai, and north Zhejiang, apart from the local market.

After the construction, Sinovel Windtec is expected to achieve both the final assembly and testing of 1,000 1.5MW onshore wind power generation sets, 300 3MW offshore and tideland wind power generation sets, as well as 5MW wind power generation sets.

Presently, China's wind power output just accounts for not more than 1% of the total worldwide, and this proportion is expected to hit 4% to 5% in 2030. The country raised the curtain on the layout and construction of six 10,000MW wind power bases in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu, Hebei, and Jiangsu early this year.
