Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs said that Iran plans to
develop cooperation with African, Latin American and neighbouring countries
in the oil sector.
Hossein Noqrekar Shirazi said that the Oil Ministry has given priority to
international cooperation in the oil sector with African, Latin American and
neighbouring countries. He said that Iran's plan for oil cooperation is not
confined to just upstream industry, Iran considers downstream sector as
well.
Noqrekar Shirazi referred to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent
visit to Kenya, Djibouti, Gambia, Mali, Mauritania and the Comoros, saying
that it shows Iran's determination to broaden ties with African states. He
cited the Latin American states including Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador as
the countries with which Iran has developed oil cooperation last year.
Noting that Iran has not had broad economic cooperation with Brazil in the
past 17 years, he said, the two countries have agreed to boost cooperation
in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors in future.
