EIA has issued a
series of charts and maps ranking the states by energy
production, consumption, and price, as well as carbon
dioxide emissions from electric power producers. In terms of
energy use per capita, Alaskans consume 1,062 million Btu,
followed by residents of Wyoming, Louisiana, North Dakota,
and Texas. The least energy-intensive per capita states were
Rhode Island (206 million Btu), New York, California,
Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The worst five states in
terms of carbon dioxide emissions by the electric power
industry (in metric tons) are Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Florida, and Indiana while the best five are Vermont,
Washington DC, Idaho, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. Texas'
emissions totaled 255,092,183 metric tons compared to 9,980
metric tons in Vermont. |
