Former NRC presidents try to save troubled organization

Sept. 24

A group of former National Recycling Coalition presidents are making a run at saving the financially troubled organization.

A total of 12 former presidents of the group sent a letter to the NRC board dated Sept. 24 seeking reconsideration of a recent decision to filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.

"For the worldīs largest economy -- and biggest waster -- to lose its most important independent voice for recycling is wrong. More importantly, it is not necessary!" a portion of the letter reads.

The group, who say they represent nearly all of the past presidents of the coalition, is asking the board to authorize a limited time allow for reorganization of the NRC.

The past presidents also pledged to help the NRC find funds and negotiate agreements with creditors and others to allow a reinvented NRC to survive.

Past presidents signing the letter include: Clifford Case, Pete Grogan, Dale Gubbels, Terry Guerin and Susan Hubbard. Other past presidents also signing are: Mark Lichtenstein, Gary Liss, Meg Morris, E. Gifford Stack, Richard Tichenor, Mary Wiard and Catherine Wilt.

The NRCīs board decided to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection earlier this month with $619 in the organizationīs checking account. Liabilities could be up to $1.5 million, the group said at the time.
