Expanded use of refrigeration process benefits natural gas industry
“The PRICO process has made Black & Veatch an industry leader for both onshore and offshore liquefied natural gas applications,” said Brian Price, Vice President and LNG Technology Manager in Black & Veatch’s energy business. “We’ve designed PRICO to be scaled up in capacity while maintaining high efficiency and reliability. Large capacities of liquefied natural gas, from 1 to 2 million tons per year, can be produced using single or multiple PRICO units, providing clients with enhanced flexibility and reliability.” *** Editor’s Notes • The PRICO process uses a Black & Veatch patented, single-mixed refrigerant loop for natural gas liquefaction. The process has several key advantages, including the lowest capital costs of all competing technologies, a simplified refrigeration system requiring minimal equipment and simplified control and maintenance. • The PRICO process is ideal for creating vehicle fuel, supplying gas for new customers and producing LNG for peak shaving, a process that ensures sufficient gas is supplied during peak demand periods. • The PRICO process is used in LNG production facilities worldwide because of its flexibility for LNG capacity and in feed gas composition. This flexibility is invaluable for clients because they receive natural gas from multiple sources with varying composition and conditions. • The PRICO process is currently used or being implemented in more than 20 facilities worldwide. • Black & Veatch introduced the PRICO process in the 1970s and improved and patented the process in 1997. • PRICO is a registered trademark of Black & Veatch Holding Company. *** About Black & Veatch Black & Veatch is a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company specializing in infrastructure development in energy, water, telecommunications, management consulting, federal and environmental markets.
