Expanding the Market for Natural Gas in New Mexico

Governor Richardson has made clean-energy related economic development one of his top priorities during his Administration. As part of that commitment, the Governor directed the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) to pursue strategies to enhance the market for New Mexico-produced natural gas by stimulating increased demand for natural gas within the state.

Concurrently, a new natural gas industry group has formed that is dedicated to growing the use of this abundant New Mexico energy resource within the transportation sector. The New Mexico Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition (NMNGVC) had its inaugural meeting on November 17 in Albuquerque to focus strategic attention on natural gas as a transportation fuel. Utilization of natural gas within the transportation sector will enable a cleaner, more affordable and reliable vehicle fueling option that will also stimulate New Mexico’s economy through the addition of jobs and increases in revenue. New Mexico is just one of the states across the country that is joining a growing movement to use natural gas as a transportation fuel.

EMNRD and NMNGVC have joined forces with other industry groups to host a natural gas vehicle planning session on December 9-10 in Albuquerque at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel.  For more info contact: amy.zmolik@encana.com

Arizona leaders have all but ignored this cleaner domestic and plentiful transportation energy source and the resulting jobs it could bring!
