The Oklahoma Emergency Management Department reported a sharp drop in the number of utility customers without power in the state, but the lights were still off for nearly 46,500 homes and businesses late this morning.

More than 5,000 utility customers still don't have electricity in Chickasha and Altus, department spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said in a news release. More than 4,000 are still without power in Lawton, and at least 2,000 customers have no electricity in Hobart, Marlow and Duncan.

Utility crews restored power to more than 24,000 customers statewide between Tuesday evening and this morning, Ooten said. Almost 200,000 customers were without power late last week in the aftermath of the winter storm.

Officials did not provide an updated timeline regarding when electricity would be restored to each customer.
