Brazil seen leading renewable energy
production

In a speech at the inauguration of the Usina Termeletrica Juiz de Fora -
the world's first ethanol-run thermal electric plant - Brazil's
Chief-of-Staff Dilma Rousseff said that the country in on the way to
becoming the world's leading renewable energy producer. Rousseff pointed
out that the plant is a sign of Brazil's commitment to reducing
Greenhouse gas emissions.
"We are paving the way for an increase in our ethanol exports, which are
currently at 4.5% of Brazil's total output, and towards becoming the
world's leading renewable energy producer", the Minister said at Juiz de
Fora (Minas Gerais), on Tuesday.
According to Rousseff, 46% of Brazil's energy supply is from renewable
sources - which is almost three times higher than in developed nations.
