Dow Chemical agrees to clean up dioxin
contamination
Jan. 18
Dow Chemical Co. has signed an agreement with the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency and Michigan to evaluate dioxin contamination in the
Tittabasassee River and the Saginaw River and Bay and their floodplains.
The agreement also requires Dow to identify cleanup options and "design
the remedy that EPA ultimately selects," the federal agency said.
"The agreement spells out tasks and a schedule that Dow must follow,"
said Richard Karl, Superfund Director for EPA Region 5, which includes
Michigan. "While the Superfund work proceeds, Dow must also continue to
comply with its Michigan-issued RCRA license."
