Veterans hospital joins partnership to recycle
batteries
Jan. 18
A veterans hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., expects to increase the
recycling of lead batteries by joining the National Partnership for
Environmental Priorities.
The Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Medical Center expects to increase its
recycling of lead batteries from 640 pounds to 1,000 pounds by September
by joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency partnership program.
The voluntary program has 262 public and private members nationwide and
has a goal to reduce, reuse or recycle 31 different chemicals and
metals.
"One of our highest priorities is to make significant progress in
assuring the safety of chemicals in our environment," said EPA Regional
Administrator Al Armendariz. "By joining this program, the Veterans
Medical Center is helping eliminate chemicals and inspiring others to do
the same."
