Brewer/Obama meeting results in agreements

WASHINGTON - After meeting President Barack Obama for a half hour, Gov. Jan Brewer says the pair have worked out some of their differences.

Brewer tells The Independent that during her Thursday in the Oval Office, Obama assured her that the bulk of the 1,200 National Guard troops being sent to the nation's southern border will be coming to Arizona.
Senators John McCain and John Kyl have called for at least 6,000 troops, so the 1,200 agreed upon is a skeleton crew at best.
Despite their differences on Arizona's immigration law, which sparked this meeting, the pair reportedly had a cordial discussion. Brewer has tried to impress upon Obama, who had not read Arizona's law before criticizing it, the seriousness of illegal immigration, and the threat it poses to law enforcement officers.
