Office Depot exceeds Earth
Day e-waste collection goals
Office products and services supplier Office Depot exceeded its e-waste collection goals, collecting 562 tons of electronic waste for recycling during its month-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The company sponsored a trade-in promotion during April, offering incentives for electronics turned in for recycling. The company had set a 400 ton goal for the month. The 562 tons of e-waste includes printers, shredders, notebook computers, digital cameras and ink and toner cartridges. The majority of products were returned to California Office Depot retail stores -- more than 13 tons -- with Florida and the Northeast U.S. markets also having strong collections. After the end of the special promotion, customers can still recycle old ink and toner cartridges for incentives and can trade in old electronics for gift cards through a program offered by Gazelle.
