Urge Your Senator to Support Nuclear
Weapons Treaty
On May 13, the Obama administration submitted the
New Strategic Nuclear Arms Reduction Treaty (New
START) to the U.S. Senate. To take effect, the
treaty must be supported by a two-thirds majority of
senators—a difficult challenge given the current
hyper partisanship in Washington.
Signed by the United States and Russia on April
8, New START is a critical first step to reduce the
global nuclear threat and make the world safer. The
treaty will reduce each country’s deployed
long-range nuclear warheads to 1,550—a roughly 30
percent cut.
Thousands of other concerned citizens are
participating in a coordinated national week of
action—organized by UCS and other organizations—in
support of New START. Join in by calling
your senator today—we need to flood their phone
lines with messages in support of this critical
treaty.

and some talking points for your call. Please
use the form provided to report back on how your
senator's office responded. Any information you give
us will help us shape our strategy for the treaty.
Take Action Today!
