Many
Americans complain about the loss of freedom in our
country today, but Hillsdale College is actually DOING
something about it. If you value your liberty, please
read Dr. Larry Arnn’s letter below to find out how to
get a copy of his insightful book,
Liberty and Learning.
I highly recommend it!

Mark
Levin
Dear American Patriot,
My name is Larry Arnn. I’m the president of Hillsdale
College, which publishes
IMPRIMIS. You can
order your no-cost subscription here.
IMPRIMIS is
dedicated to
educating citizens and promoting civil and religious
liberty by covering cultural, economic, political and
educational issues of enduring significance.
When you go to
order your no-cost subscription,
I hope you’ll
fill out our 2010 IMPRIMIS Survey
to help us better understand what you want to see in the
publication, and here’s why:
Since the 2008 election, the executive branch and
Congress have moved with alarming speed to put more and
more of our lives under government control.
Whether the issue is government-run health care ... the
government takeover of auto companies and other private
businesses ... or more government control over the
environment, I need not remind you of the dire
consequences this kind of statism poses for America’s
treasured liberty.
That’s one reason Hillsdale College wants to
dramatically expand the circulation of
IMPRIMIS —
America’s foremost digest of liberty — to 3 MILLION
readers. I believe
spreading the
message of freedom far and wide is the best way to
counteract the message of bureaucratic despotism
that millions of Americans hear daily from our current
crop of political leaders.
A
special edition of my book,
Liberty and Learning:
The Evolution of American Education, has just
been published.
And you can have a copy!
It’s yours when you order your no-cost
IMPRIMIS
subscription, fill out the 2010 IMPRIMIS Survey
and make a donation of at least $35 to help Hillsdale
College in our efforts to teach the Constitution to
millions around the country.
So please complete the
2010 IMPRIMIS Survey
right now, while you’re thinking about it. I
estimate it will take less than five minutes of your
time, and you may influence what millions of other
freedom-loving Americans will read in future issues of
IMPRIMIS.
Your answers will be shared with every member of
the IMPRIMIS
staff as they plan for next year's publications.
One thing of which I am certain: As government becomes
ever larger and ever more unconstitutional, now is not
the time to moan and wring our hands. Instead, it is
time to ...
RECLAIM THE
CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC
ESTABLISHED BY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS!
At Hillsdale College, we are obligated to take a stand!
But to stop government expansion into areas where it
doesn’t belong, we need true patriots who will champion
a cause larger than themselves. We need citizens like
you who ...
- KNOW that the Founders established a republic
where ultimate authority resides outside
the government, with the people; where citizens are
responsible
for their own lives; and where there is equal
opportunity, not forced outcomes;
- KNOW that the limits imposed on our government
by the Constitution are just as important
as its enumerated powers;
- KNOW that government was
never meant
to be an expansive bureaucracy that regulates our
everyday lives; and
- KNOW that the “nanny state” cannot solve our
nation’s ills. What it will do, however, is
erode the self-governing character of the American
people.
THE ROAD FROM
FREEDOM TO DESPOTISM
IS OFTEN PAVED WITH
GOOD INTENTIONS.
Most of us desire to have gainful employment, own a
home, and have access to outstanding health care. But
these are not
God-given rights. Neither is it the responsibility of
government to provide them.
In our free society, the Constitution protects our
equal opportunity to provide these blessings to
ourselves and to our families without being hindered by
government.
Sadly, the lure of the “nanny state” is blinding many
Americans to the perils of allowing government to favor
some over others, redistributing wealth rather than
ensuring equal opportunity to all. Because of this
increasing blindness, our country is now at a stage
where ...
THE
LOSS OF OUR LIBERTY IS AN ACTUAL POSSIBILITY!
Will we sit
idly by and watch our liberty taken away? NO! We must
stand up and demand that our representatives respect our
right to liberty. Together we can
return our
country to the Constitution!
To accomplish this, we must immediately lift the veil of
ignorance that is leading our nation down a pathway to
"soft despotism."

Much of the oppressive political correctness, distorted
sense of history, disregard for individual rights, and
lust for power evident in Washington today has sprouted
from seeds planted in America’s colleges and
universities.
Unfortunately, too many of our country’s politicians,
journalists, attorneys, professors, high school
teachers, clergy, and other gatekeepers of our society
were educated in schools that either do not teach the
American heritage, or teach it in a way that undermines
it.
As you’ll discover in my book,
Liberty and Learning, the state of higher
education in America today is a far cry from what the
Founders intended.
You can get your copy here.
While education has always been revered in our nation,
it was never
intended to be hostile to the American heritage.
Yet on many campuses today, political indoctrination has
replaced open intellectual discourse, and ideas are
evaluated not on their merits, but on their agreement
with “progressive” ideology.
STUDENTS ARE NO LONGER TAUGHT
HOW TO THINK, BUT WHAT TO THINK!
If we are to survive as a free and prosperous nation, we
must teach the principles of liberty to all Americans,
especially:
- STUDENTS, who will be a new generation of
leaders steeped in the wisdom of America’s Founders
and the Constitution.
- OUR NATIONAL LEADERS, in the importance
of limited government to individual liberty.
- ALL CITIZENS, who must study and
understand the timeless principles of liberty so
they have the tools necessary to actively
participate in our Constitutional republic.
To
have a direct and immediate influence on our
nation’s future, Hillsdale College has opened the
Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional
Studies and Citizenship on Capitol Hill. The Kirby
Center is already having a noticeable impact.
Congressional staffers, journalists, educators, and
government officials are now turning to the Kirby Center
for knowledge about how the Constitution has been
undermined, and how it can be revived.
Through meetings and seminars, including the First
Principles on First Fridays lecture series, these policy
makers and opinion leaders are being educated in the
history and nature of the Progressive attacks on the
Constitution.
Contrary to what many of their critics are saying, those
who are leading our country toward this bureaucratic
despotism are not evil. Rather, they have been taught to
believe that the Constitution is an impediment to their
view of progress.
Hillsdale College counters this false ideology with
truth, teaching that what Progressives define as
progress is not progress at all. Rather, it is a return
to the kind of despotism our forefathers fought to
escape.
However, the main battle for American liberty will not
be fought in Washington. It will be decided in the
cities and towns across our great country. If we are to
revive our nation, we must reach everyday Americans —
not just the Washington elite.
That’s why Hillsdale sends
IMPRIMIS —
America’s foremost digest of liberty—
at no-cost to anyone who
wants it. But we need your financial support, so
Hillsdale can reach 3 million IMPRIMIS
subscribers.

As you may or may not know,
Hillsdale
College accepts no federal or state taxpayer funding—and
never will. It refuses even to allow its students
to take federal grants or loans, replacing this money
with privately-funded student aid. Hillsdale takes this
stand because it believes federal funding of education
is unconstitutional and because with government money
comes government regulation. Only by preserving our
independence can we remain free of government control.
We depend entirely on the generosity of defenders of
liberty such as yourself for our funding. It is your
gifts, and your gifts alone, that make it possible for
us to keep tuition affordable for our students and fund
all of our educational outreach programs aimed at
safeguarding the Constitution and reviving the
principles of liberty both in Washington, D.C. and in
the hearts and minds of our students.
In these troubled times, Hillsdale is determined, for
the good of our nation, to
increase
IMPRIMIS readership to 3 MILLION. The cost
to provide IMPRIMIS
at no-cost to an additional 1.1 MILLION readers?
Approximately $174,000 per month — or $2,090,000 a year
— a huge financial commitment far beyond our budget
right now. That’s why I am writing you today.
Unless more Americans champion the cause of liberty and
arm themselves with the kind of knowledge found in the
pages of IMPRIMIS,
we will not be able to regain control of our government
from the bureaucrats and return it to the people, to
whom it rightfully belongs.
Will you, on behalf of your fellow citizens and for the
cause of American constitutionalism, help Hillsdale
shine a light in the darkness?
A timely gift of $35 from you would help us
offset the cost of reaching our 3-million subscriber
goal.
Thanks to Mark Levin, who has launched our campaign on
his radio program, we are well on our way to reaching
1.1 MILLION new subscribers.
