Manufacturer ups post-consumer plastic in products

Nov. 2 -- Seventh Generation, the nation´s number one brand of non-toxic household and personal care products, reported that it has brought the post-consumer recycled plastic content of three of its product bottles up to an industry first 90%.

In its Corporate Consciousness Report for 2009, Seventh Generation detailed the following new goals for packaging and waste reduction:

- Bring laundry bottles up to more than 75% post-consumer recycled plastic content;

- An 80% reduction in virgin plastic use by 2014;

- And a 25% reduction in solid waste from products and packaging by 2015.

All materials and ingredients used in its products will come from renewable plant and mineral sources that ensure compostability and/or biodegradability in marine environments by 2015.

The report also revealed the company´s progress on a centerpiece series of energy and climate goals. This includes a 7% reduction in carbon emissions and a 13% decrease in employee carbon footprints between 2005 and 2009.
