29 Governors Push For National Renewable Energy Standard

The Governors' Wind Energy Coalition sent a letter today to Senate leadership of both parties outlining the urgent need for passage of a strong national renewable energy standard.   The Coalition consists of 29 governors from both parties and all regions of the country.

The letter comes on the tail of an Ernst and Young report released last week which ranked China as the best market for renewable energy investment in the world, putting it above the United States and Europe for the first time ever.

“The states have led the way on fighting global warming and jump starting our economic engine with clean energy.  The Governors’ Wind Energy Coalition letter is a call to action for Congress,” said Environment America Clean energy Advocate Sean Garren.

“The States' leadership in clean energy have created thousands of jobs, and to create even more clean energy jobs in the future, it’s time to pass a  strong national renewable electricity standard that will require our utilities to get more of their electricity from clean, renewable resources and create hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs in America.  We urge the Senate to pass a strong standard this year,” said Garren.
