Next steps in your renewable energy training
How your solar skills fit into the bigger picture of building energy
and design, or even beyond borders in the developing world
By April E. Clark, Marketing Communications Coordinator
CARBONDALE, Colorado, USA
As part of Solar Energy International's new Alumni Career Center and Online Campus career counseling services, we often hear from alumni who want to know what training they should take next. We recommend branching out to the various related and relevant training opportunities SEI has to offer. Do you have previous solar energy training? Have you ever
wondered how your solar skills fit into the bigger picture of
building energy and design, or even beyond borders in the
developing world? Solar Energy International has the answer in
our
Building for the Future: Sustainable Home Design - Online
course, starting Sept. 27. This course shows how efficiency,
sustainable building design, and RE technologies such as solar
electricity come together. For job seekers, this training shows
potential employers that you see the full home/building as a
system and have a 360-degree view of how renewables can help
home and business owners.
A 360-degree view of the building sciences world
You can expand your building sciences knowledge base and solar skill sets to share with clients and customers in Building for the Future. For those possibly pursuing Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification or the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) training and testing, this course helps tremendously for preparation.
Solar skills needed around the world
Renewable energy technologies are solutions to problems in
education, health care, agriculture, and micro-enterprise
faced in the developing world. Implementing renewable energy
projects in rural areas sustainably can make a huge
difference in improving, and often saving, lives. If you've
always wanted to bring your skills and experience to these
communities,
Renewable Energy for the Developing World - Online,
starting Sept. 6, is the perfect place to start.
"This class provides excellent information from people who
have actually been out in the developing world doing this
work," says Jeff Lahl,
Solar Electric Light Fund project manager. "This is the
only place you can get this type of information. We hope to
be able to hire graduates of this class for our projects."
Our alumni often ask, "How do I get real world experience and differentiate one's experiences in a competitive job market?" Taking RE for DW - Online and our upcoming workshops in Nicaragua and Costa Rica are great ways to add those stand-out training bullet points to your resume. Nothing is more "real world" than helping bring renewable energy to the developing world. This shows your application of technical training as well as an altruistic, globally focused spirit many employers in this industry value.
Building for the Future and
RE for the Developing World are just two of Solar Energy
International's courses featured in our new online campus.
Utilizing cost-effective technologies through
state-of-the-art online capabilities, SEI can pass on the
savings to participants with an affordable $595 online
tuition cost for these courses. At this new low cost,
participants can gain the knowledge to act now on measures
to improve the comfort and efficiency of an existing home,
and help others in the developing world.
Solar Energy International's online campus offers new learning opportunities such as:
Our new online campus has attracted more than 180 submissions
to our alumni survey, and almost 100 individuals have posted a
location pin on our alumni map. Additionally, we have more than
10 internal job postings in our premium services area for our
alumni, who have provided valuable feedback on this helpful
resource. As part of our online campus launch, we are giving
away a $1,000 SEI scholarship to Chip Mefford for his input!
