Coast-To-Coast Natural Gas-Fueled Hummer Tour to Visit Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz.–Murry and Cindy Gerber, philanthropists from Pittsburgh, are making a coast-to-coast trip in a natural gas-powered Hummer to draw public attention to the fact that NGVs provide a great option for consumers looking for cleaner and cheaper alternative fuel for their vehicles.

In addition to funding the trip with their own moneyno corporate sponsorship involvedthe Gerbers are visiting middle schools to give a short presentation on the subject of natural gas and NGVs. To encourage American ingenuity in our effort to attain energy independence, the Gerbers will donate $2,500 to help each school’s science and engineering programs. The Gerbers and their natural gas Hummer will be in the Tucson area on Saturday, April 30.

“We chose a natural gas-converted Hummer for this tour,” says Murry Gerber, “because so many people consider this vehicle to be the ultimate ‘dirty’ vehicle. But in reality it’s not the vehicle that causes clean air problems, it’s the fuel. America has abundant resources of natural gas. That means we can be less dependent on foreign resources such as oiland create more jobs here at home.”

“Tucson Clean Cities is proud to be a part of the Gerber’s tour,” said Colleen Crowninshield, Manager of the Energy Program at PAG, “Not only are the Gerbers demonstrating the versatility of natural gas as an alternative to petroleum, but their educational mission is bringing awareness of alternative fuels to a whole new generation.”

A media opportunity will take place on the morning of Saturday, April 30, when the Gerbers fuel their vehicle at the Clean Energy station at 1744 E. Winsett St. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of Clean Energy and Southwest Gas.
