Do You Ever...

Do you ever shake your head, roll your eyes, and ask yourself, "What has happened to this country?"

Our government has run up the credit cards to the tune of $15,000,000,000,000 with no way to pay it back. Foreclosures this year will again hit record numbers. Higher education costs have spiraled out of control, but despite the high price tag, millions of Americans with college degrees are unemployed or underemployed. (The true unemployment rate is at least 22%.) Over half of Americans don't pay taxes at all, while the other half often work two and three jobs to carry the load. The average American teenager spends over 30 hours per week online, most people don't know even know their neighbors' names, and depression is rampant.

Our government is dysfunctional. Our culture is dysfunctional. Our communities are dysfunctional. That's not how it used to be, and you have to wonder...

Whatever happened to the American spirit of self-reliance? What happened to the focus on faith, family, and friends of yesteryear? When did we go from a nation of bold risk-takers to a nation that expects the government to protect us from every potential risk in the universe?

But here's the thing. The world may have changed all around us, but fundamentally people haven't changed. And that's why I daresay that deep down, you have a hankering for a more authentic life. A simpler life. A more meaningful life.

In the Bible, God brings His people into the promised land, a land that was given to them after 400 years of bondage. And while we can't honestly say we've been in bondage to our own nation for that long, sometimes it feels pretty darned close.

So... What if you could have a "do-over"? What might it look like?

Bear with me, and I'll tell you what such a "do-over" might look like. Not only that, but I'll tell you how you can make it happen.

But first, I have a confession to make. For the past few years, I've been sneaking away to my own little "promised land" several times a year. And I can't wait to get there. I look forward to it and count the days until we can go there again. My wife loves it, my kids love it, and my grandkids love it. In the not-too-distant future, this could well be our new permanent home.

In a world that's gotten increasingly smaller... at a time when you can hardly throw a stone anywhere on the planet without hitting a Starbucks or a McDonalds... would it surprise you to know there's still a land that's pretty much unspoiled? Hard to believe, right? Well, keep reading.

Step into this "promised land," and it's like stepping into the best aspects of the U.S. culture 60 years ago--a time when people weren't rushing everywhere like crazy, where they had time to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and most of all, each other.

And tell me if this doesn't sound like the United States of yesteryear:

"The kids ride their bicycles freely on the streets, people are out walking all the time and generally this is a community of people. People aren't stuck in their air-conditioned vehicles or in their air-conditioned homes. Instead, they are out, getting what they need, and being friendly on the street."

So says one of the expats living in this best-kept-secret of a country. Or how about this:

"The friendliness, the openness of the people is definitely a refreshing change... when it comes to friendliness, the people I have met so far certainly do make me feel welcome."

(When was the last time you felt like that in your hometown, much less in your very own neighborhood?)

As I've made this adopted land my home away from home, I've noticed something interesting: I'm not the only one who is adopting this country. And here are just a few of the many reasons why:

  • English is the official language, so there's no language barrier and no learning curve.
  • The cost of living is lower--you can easily live on $2000 a month or less, and still be able to afford a housekeeper and a gardener.
  • The country's stable government is based on the Canadian constitution.
  • The climate is gorgeous--mild all year round, and you have your choice of beaches, mountains, and fertile farmland.
  • The government wants you to open a business, and they don't throw needless obstacles in your way.
  • You can reach this country by direct flight from many major U.S. cities in a few short hours.
  • The pace of life is slower, and the people are much, much friendlier and more hospitable than they are in the U.S.

And here's one of the biggest benefits, in my opinion:

The government doesn't try to run every aspect of your life. You won't find petty power-hungry bureaucrats breathing down your neck over real or imagined regulatory violations.

You won't get arrested, hauled off, and thrown into jail, as a Burnsville, Minnesota man was recently when he didn't have the right kind of siding on his house. Your local government won't forbid you to grow vegetables in your own yard and threaten you with jail time, as did officials in Oak Park, Michigan last year. Your homeowner's association won't fine you $6,000 for planting flowers in your front yard (yes, it really happened recently in New Hampshire). Nobody will make you wear a bike helmet if you don't want to, they won't shut down your kid's lemonade stand, and they won't put a lien on your house for keeping a few backyard chickens.

On the other hand, you'll have to take some personal responsibility for your own wellbeing.

I'd say that's a fair trade-off, wouldn't you?

Here's another big benefit to this country: it's very conducive to living an off-the-grid lifestyle... and very cheaply. Not only can you get off the electrical grid and live more independently, but you can also get off the rat race grid... off the comply-with-a-thousand-regulations-a-day grid... off the keeping-up-with-the-joneses grid... and you live a life that is more self-reliant (while paradoxically more connected to your neighbors) and more authentic than you ever dreamed possible.

As I've come to love my new "promised land" over the past few years, I knew I couldn't in good conscience keep it a secret. Many of our customers and subscribers share the same values we do, and we knew they'd want to know about the opportunities this country offers.

Everything you need to know to plan your own personal "do-over"

I've put together a complete information package that will tell you everything you need to know if you're considering whether this "promised land" would be right for you. In the 498-page manual, you'll get in-depth information about the country, what to expect if you relocate, and how to do it. You'll discover things like:

  • What the real country is like, not just the façade that tourists see
  • How to prepare to move, and practical tips on handling the logistics
  • How and why to assimilate into the local culture
  • How to buy property and build a home (and what you must do before you buy)
  • How to start a new business in this country, or maintain an existing business long-distance
  • Everything you need to know about moving your kids
  • How to live happily off the grid, if that's what you want
  • How to choose the best area to live in based on what kind of lifestyle you want
  • How to have the time of your life whether or not you need (or want) to work

This comprehensive manual leaves no stone unturned when it comes to exploring the ins and outs of this country. But we didn't stop with the manual. You also get 8 companion DVDs featuring in-depth interviews with people who live and work in this country right now (some of them have been there for decades). You'll hear their stories first hand, and they'll give you a perspective you just can't get anywhere else.

P.S. Even if it's never even entered your head to live anywhere but where you are now, consider this: if you knew there was a place that embraced the values you grew up with, where the government left you alone, where people put relationships before personal ambition, and where you don't even have to learn a new language because English is the official language--isn't that place worth even a brief look? I think you'd agree with me that it is. Click here to learn more.
