Henry Hub spot gas trading at $1.82/MMBtu, an 11-year low
Houston (Platts)--20Apr2012/1145 am EDT/1545 GMT
Several US spot natural gas prices fell to record low averages Friday
as a 10-year-low settlement Thursday on the NYMEX May contract combined
with a massive storage overhang and lackluster weekend utility demand to
yank prices lower at several hubs.
The benchmark Henry Hub in Louisiana fell 3 cents to average at an
11-year low of $1.82/MMBtu on the IntercontinentalExchange. The last
time the Henry Hub averaged this low was November 30, 2001, when it hit
$1.75/MMBtu, according to Platts historical prices.
Elsewhere, record lows were set in the US Northeast.
New England consumption market Algonquin Gas Transmission's city-gates
averaged at $2.01/MMBtu on ICE after a 4-cent decline, marking an
all-time low, according to Platts prices.
New York City hub Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line zone 6-New York
averaged at $1.96/MMBtu on ICE Friday, down 4 cents, another all-time
low. The West Coast wasn't spared, either.
The Pacific Gas and Electric city-gate averaged at $2.26/MMBtu on ICE,
after falling 6 cents, coming in at a 10-year low.
The last time the West Coast consumption market averaged close to that
range was February 6, 2002, when it averaged at $2.19/MMBtu, according
to Platts prices.
