Conway police are investigating a home invasion that happened early Tuesday morning at a home in the 1600 block of 9th Avenue.

Shortly before 6:00 a.m., Conway police officers were called to the home in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, a man was lying in the living room floor of the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Officers then spoke with the homeowner who told them that he was asleep when he awoke to find someone standing by his bed holding a machete.

The victim said the man attempted to strike him with the machete but he blocked the strike-receiving only a minor cut to his hand, according to a police report.

The victim then said he got a gun from under his pillow and fired at the burglar one time, striking him in the abdomen.

The suspect was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery and remains hospitalized.

This case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
