NY passes multiple solar bills

Solar energy should continue to grow rapidly in New York State since the approval of solar legislation by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The package of three bills related to tax exemptions should have a positive impact on the total amount of electricity derived from renewables in the state. "By making it more affordable for businesses and homeowners to install solar systems, these laws are vital to helping New York realize its goal of 45 percent renewable-powered electricity by 2015," said Carrie Cullen Hitt, Vice President for State Affairs, Solar Energy Industries Association. In addition to these laws, several other policies are in place to promote solar investment in the state. These include a feed-in tariff through Long Island Power Authority, a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority customer-sited tiered program, and net metering.
