It Starts at Home

"When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain." "
-Napoleon Bonaparte

George Santayana is well known for his saying that "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." This pearl of wisdom has more truth than you can possibly realize. Looking back in history, nearly every mistake our country has made already happened somewhere else.

Take, for example, the economic crisis in our country over the last two years. Who could have predicted it? Napoleon Bonaparte. Although he died nearly 200 years ago, he warned of the dangers when banks were given too much leeway: "When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain."

Now the question is, when will we learn? When will we start looking at the mistakes we've made in the past so that we do not stumble on those obstacles in the future?

It starts at home. We can critique the government all we want, but if we don't start practicing what we preach in our own lives and on the small scale, how will it ever translate into true change? You may not be able to reform the world in a day or even a year, but you can start with yourself and your home.

In this week's newsletter, our feature article discusses storing away your weapons now that hunting season has wound down. We've also included articles on making your own off-the-grid air conditioning, seeding and cultivating without machines (or breaking your back), and trying your hand at homemade brooms. We've also included an installment from Way Off the Grid for some laughs.
