To be truly free, one must accept boundaries
In order to be truly free, one must accept boundaries. That sounds like
an oxymoron if there ever was one, doesn’t it? Doesn’t freedom mean that
no one can tell us how to act, think, worship, or live? Aren’t we living
in the “if it feels good, do it” age and hence, have become more
enlightened about freedom than any previous generation?
The simple answer to that is “No.” In the real world of actions and
consequences (and not in the esoteric world of philosophical musings and
classroom theory), freedom without the limitation of responsibility
affects us on so many levels--physically, spiritually, and politically.
Freedom without boundaries is anarchy, and anarchy by definition is the
absence of the rule of law, where no one but brutes and the mob
mentality define justice. The simple fact is, when tyranny acts without
justice, there can be no freedom.
True Freedom Is Found Only Within The
Constraints Of The Law...
Liberty, as the Founders saw it, was at its core a submission to a
higher Divine law that existed and ruled over all mankind. There was no
way to get around it, no way to avoid it, and no way to govern without
it. In fact, George Washington himself said that a nation which rejects
the Divine law of God cannot stand or prosper. A people who forget Him
will crumble and fall.
As we look around us today, can we not see the results of that
forgetfulness? Can we not see the march to anarchy that we are engaged
in? Our people have become divided as we concentrate more and more on
personal rights to the point that we will not even consider the rights
of others in the equation.
For instance, one person can get school prayer banned, and another can
convince a judge that the words “benediction” and “moment of silence”
are gruesome attempts to force religion on a people and have no place in
the graduation ceremonies of a high school. The increasing “freedom”
from worship naturally limits the ability to worship at all, and
religious people find themselves marginalized more and more frequently.
However, when you limit the government from constraining faith, you then
have the maximum freedom to pursue your faith in any legal way you see
fit.
The Founders understood this, as did the colonists who settled this
country and fought in its Revolutionary War. But like every generation
since Adam, it’s easy to forget what compels us and what we must
continue to fight for. In ancient days, there would be a standard bearer
that went out before the people with a formal, visual symbol of the
state, the king, their deity, etc. This symbol insured that the people
remembered who they were and what it was they either stood for or fought
for.
As a country, we have the American flag. But sometimes we need something
even closer to home, something visual to encourage us in the day-to-day
battles that we face. That’s why Solutions From Science is so glad to
offer their customers this appealing reminder to encourage them in their
everyday struggles against an encroaching government, a crumbling
society, and curtailments of freedoms that not too long ago were givens
in our country.
The Liberty Tree blanket is a compilation of various themes that
make our country a whole. At the top are the words “Appeal to God,” a
reminder that this appeal is woven into all the founding documents of
our country, from the Declaration of Independence to the Constitution.
This appeal to heaven, based on the belief of the colonists that even
kings were subject to God’s law, is a reminder that our Founding Fathers
trusted in a Divine King and that this faith could not be separated from
the concept of liberty.
In fact, the very tenets of our society are founded in this Divine law.
We must base our governing system on something greater than ourselves,
something that is absolute in nature, so that our laws and freedoms are
not arbitrary nor subject to the whims of whomever is in power. On that
basis alone, we cannot separate God or His law from secular government.
In the center of the blanket is the Liberty Tree, a symbol of the actual
Tree of Liberty that was located in Boston. It became the meeting place
for groups such as the Sons of Liberty and the symbol of the struggle
for freedom by the colonists. During George Washington’s siege of
Boston, British Loyalists cut down this tree in a desperate act of spite
and retaliation. However, the colonists were not deterred, and the
memory and values that the tree stood for carried them through the
Revolutionary War.
On the four corners of the
Liberty Tree blanket are symbols for the important institutions of
our country: education, church, civil government, and justice. Our
Founding Fathers were men of remarkable character and wisdom, but they
didn’t get that way by chance. They were the beneficiaries of
outstanding schooling, doctrinally sound preaching, solid civil
foundations, and law--and all of these were saturated with Christianity.
These are areas that have been gradually lost through the course of our
country’s history--and if we want to reclaim liberty for our children
and grandchildren--we need to take back these cornerstones.
The Liberty Tree blanket is a 48” x 68” one hundred percent cotton
Jacquard woven blanket. Not only are these blankets machine washable,
they come with care instructions and they’re made in the United States.
The point it is, we need to remember. We need to remember how our
liberty was won. We need to remember the virtues of faith, love, and
self-discipline. We need to remember the values and morals that made
this country great. Allow the Liberty Tree blanket to be your “standard
bearer” as you go throughout your day.
