Huawei, the giant Chinese telecommunications company best known as a manufacturer of cell phones, is making inroads into the U.S. market despite the fact that several countries, such as Australia, have banned the company from bidding on cellular networks and government contracts due to concerns about electronic “backdoors” in Huawei components – computer code that could allow the Chinese government to secretly steal information or sabotage electronic devices.
