Electric cars have little advantage over diesel cars: study
VIENNA, Jun 22, 2012 -- Xinhua
Electric cars have hardly any advantage over diesel cars, a
study by the Vienna University of Technology showed Friday.
The study involved four electric cars and one diesel fuel
car. Results showed that while the electric cars performed
better in some aspects, acquiring an electric car at present
offered few benefits said Austrian Society of Automotive
Engineers (OVK) President Hans-Peter Lenz.
"(Electric cars) have in total no significant advantages,
whether for the user or for the environment," he said.
The four electric cars tested were the Mitsubishi iMiEV,
Mercedes Benz A-Class E-Cell, Smart Fortwo Electric Drive, and
Nissan Leaf, and the diesel fuel car is a VW Polo BlueMotion.
The electric cars used less energy in cities, but needed more
energy than the diesel car in long distance drive.
