Genetically Engineered Food Declared “substantially equivalent” to conventionally grown food--twenty years ago
Twenty years ago this Saturday, former Monsanto lawyer Michael Taylor and now FDA deputy commissioner, declared that genetically engineered food was “substantially equivalent” to conventionally grown food and therefore did not need to be labeled.
Thanks to this decision, Americans have spent the last twenty years as unwitting guinea pigs in a massive, uncontrolled, and involuntary experiment on the long-term health effects of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
You have a right to know what’s in your food. The California Right to Know GE Food Act would require all food containing GMOs to be properly labeled, and thanks to California’s enormous economy, this would have a ripple effect throughout our nation.
