When bad events happen, they don't happen in a vacuum. These events
are not singularities which wreak havoc and then go away, leaving us to
resume our lives. They infiltrate our world at the most basic levels,
leaving us vulnerable and with the sudden understanding that we are
miniscule beings in a human construct that really cares nothing for us.
Believe it or not, the tragedy of Hurricane Sandy is not the hurricane
itself, but the lack of prior planning and the aftermath of devastation.
What is sad is the faith that the people living in these areas put in
the finite god of government, a god that has limited mercy or grace.
And they are seeing just how limited that mercy is. The layer of
bureaucracy is overwhelmingly ineffective in supplying help and needed
supplies. There's no water, no food, no power, and no trash pickup.
Sanitation is gone and people are using the bathroom wherever they can.
Weather events are adversely affecting the restoration of the
infrastructure, and now FEMA has closed its offices because of those
same weather conditions. If you're one of the victims, it's pretty much
tough luck for you right now.
This is how big government works and how it affects us when we come to
depend on it from cradle to grave. In the past, neighbors and churches
helped one another. But the God of the Bible is pass in these modern,
post-Christian times and even many of the churches in America have given
over their mandate to help the needy to inefficient government agencies.
Many of us barely know our neighbors, if at all. Is this the type of
country we want to be?
Please join Bill Heid and Brian Brawdy on today's episode of Off the
Grid Radio as they discuss the aftermath of Sandy, the inadequacies of
big government, and a look at the future direction of our country and
what we need to do to prepare.
