Syria: U.S. Calls for Shake-Up of Syrian Opposition
In a stunning move yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
called for new leadership of the main Syrian opposition group, the
Syrian National Council (SNC), and said it can no longer be viewed as
the visible head of the Syrian opposition. The move comes as Western
states are increasingly concerned about infighting within the SNC, short
shrift it is giving to Syrian minority groups, and a rise in extremist
activity among Syrian rebels fighting the Assad regime.
