Up to 250,000 cars may need to be scrapped from Sandy

Photos.com The National Automobile Dealers Association estimates that 250,000 cars will need to be scrapped resulting from Hurricane Sandy.

Up to 250,000 new and used vehicles may have been damaged to the point that they need to head to the scrap yard because of Hurricane Sandy, the New York Daily News reported.

The storm, which flooded areas of New York and New Jersey, swallowed at least 16,000 brand new cars, with General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. still yet to announce their loses stemming from the storm, the newspaper reported.

The estimate of cars damaged comes from the National Automobile Dealers Association. The storm didn't take as many cars as Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region in 2005, which damaged 325,000 cars, the newspaper said.
