Canada's strongest earthquake in more than 60 years has struck off
British Columbia's coast. The magnitude 7.7 quake struck at 8:04 p.m. PT
Saturday and was centered off Haida Gwaii, formerly the Queen Charlotte
Islands. It could be felt as far away as Edmonton and Yukon.
Several medium-large aftershocks occurred immediately after and
continue. The range has been from a 5.1-4.0 magnitude.

Residents near the center of the quake said the violent jolting from the
initial tremor lasted for up to a minute - as of yet, no injuries or
major damage have been reported.
This area is very close to the Cascadia Subduction Zone which has a
history of mega-quakes measuring 9+ .... It is also predicted to have a
300 year cycle which means it's due any day. The last event occurred
January 26th 1700 with a 9.2 mag. quake which sent a tsunami all the way
to Japan killing thousands.
