Dispute with China Forces Japan to Rethink Pacifist Stance
With tensions escalating between China and Japan over control of the
Senkaku Islands, Japan is poised to amend its constitution, changing the
provisions that limit the ability of its defense forces to act. It is
unlikely that China and Japan will go to war over the islands, but it
appears that the dispute will affect their relationship for years to
come and may compel Japan to abandon the pacifist stance it has
maintained since World War II.
