Meat prices are astronomical and they seem to be going up daily. And
while prices are continuing to rise, I'll have to say the quality of the
meat is going down. I looked at a couple of T-bone steaks in my local
grocery store the other day, and I have seldom seen the lines of gristle
and inedible parts that those steaks had.
And it wasn't just a few cuts of meat, either. It was all of it. Those
cuts that looked better and were more desirable also carried a higher
price tag. It was a lot more than my pocketbook could afford. Even the
hamburger was too high.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations, meat prices were up 2.1% from August, with rising feed costs
being the major driving factor. Corn prices jumped at the end of
September 5.6% after the government said domestic supplies were lower
than expected because of the drought conditions that adversely affected
farmers from Nebraska to Ohio. This year's harvest was the smallest in
six years and inventories are their lowest in eight years.
The expected glut of meat in the supermarkets hasn't been seen as
farmers continue to hold onto their stock. The anticipated sell-off of
meat stock because of rising feed costs just has not happened, and the
rising prices at the meat market reflect this.
I'm going to be honest here, however... I don't worry about meat
prices... and you don't have to either. Let me confess to
something--I like to peruse the meat counter every time I go grocery
shopping just for the sense of satisfaction and the pride that I have in
my husband, who is an avid hunter and keeps our freezer full year round
with the game he brings home.
Wouldn't you like to cut your grocery budget by bringing in fresh game
instead of the mass production, chemically laden meat your grocery store
offers? (And if they do offer an organic selection, those prices are
even higher still!) And even if you live in an urban environment, you
can still take advantage of this. There are millions of acres of
wildlife management areas across the United States that are allocated
for seasonal hunting that anyone in the USA can take advantage of.
And ladies, don't click out of this email just yet. There are thousands
of female hunters across the United States, and my daughter and I happen
to be part of that group. We can learn to do whatever we have to in
order to put food on the table.
However, once you have that deer (or elk or moose or whatever) tagged
and bagged, what do you do with it? It's at this point that it's real
easy to mess things up and come home with meat that is so rank, no one
will eat it.
So how do you avoid that scenario?
Become an expert at field dressing and
processing venison (or any big game)
just by watching this new DVD from Solutions From Science
Maximum Venison In Minimum Time is the
latest offering from Solutions From Science in their educational video
library which teaches off-grid skills for surviving. They found a
seasoned hunter who has dressed out hundreds of deer in his 44 years of
"killin' and grillin'," which makes him the perfect guide in this how-to
video that teaches you how to field dress any large game animal (and
uses deer as the example).
What kind of stuff can you learn from watching this DVD? How about:
- The first thing you should do (with the butt of your gun)
- The initial two "uncomfortable cuts"(why you need to be bold
with these)
- What to do if you're by yourself
- The ideal way to hang your deer for processing
- How to "ring" the rear legs
- The one tendon NOT to cut
- A special type of high-speed knife and why you need one
- The simple "pull-and-slice" technique
- Why you should field dress your deer as soon as possible
- Crucial mistakes to avoid at all costs
- Important joint cutting techniques
- Organs you should NEVER cut into
- How to use the finger method to make sure you never make a bad
cut
- How to check your deer for liver flukes
- How to use the entrails in a survival situation
- The best cuts and how to get them home safely
- How to turn the rib cage into a "survival meat basket" to pack
out your venison
- Getting the forgotten "sweet meat" of the deer
- The special piece of meat that should never leave the field or
forest
And that's just the beginning. There are so many time-tested
techniques explained throughout this DVD that it would be impossible to
list them all in this one email. The field dressing systems for game
presented in
Maximum Venison In Minimum Time are some
of the easiest to learn and implement, brought to you by someone who has
been hunting his entire life.
In fact, your guide for this series has been more than successful in
filling up our freezer for 32 years, and I'll put his hunting and
harvesting skills up against anyone's.
But there's more to putting meat in the freezer than field dressing
after the kill. There's butchering the meat into pieces that can be
utilized for family meals. That's why in addition to the main DVD, you
also get several bonuses:
- Bonus Video -- Solutions From Science has added a bonus DVD that
explains yet another look at "survival" butchering and processing.
It's called Extreme Venison. It's designed for more extreme
situations in the woods or in the field when all you have for
resources is a knife. A "must see" for those interested in
self-reliance.
- Bonus Book -- The Big Book and Encyclopedia of Butchering
and Curing Meat. This book is one of the easiest to understand
and learn from that I've seen. Full color pictures take the reader
through the process of butchering all types of meat, from venison to
beef to pork.
- Special Report -- Meat Hunter: How To Feed Your Family With
Your Gun. Designed to help almost anyone (even novices) tap
into the potential food resources that are all around you. There's
