Russia: Coming Trade Deficit May Force Real Reforms
Russian leaders may be hoping that President Vladimir Putin's 60th
birthday celebrations last week overshadowed announcements made by the
Central Bank of Russia that left little room for optimism about Russia’s
economic outlook. In its forecasts for the next three years, the bank
revealed that it expects Russia's export surplus to be reversed by the
year 2015, an occurrence that will mark a sudden reversal of fortune for
Russia’s economy.
