Russia Revives Rail-Based ICBMs to Bolster Nuclear Arsenal
Russia’s recent announcement that it is interested in creating a new
rail-based system to use as a mobile launch platform for nuclear
missiles is troubling on many levels, but most of all in what it says
about how Russia sees itself in the world. Insecure about its
diminishing power vis-à-vis the United States and paranoid about China’s
growing leverage in Asia, Russia’s new aggressive stance has not gone
unnoticed in Washington and Beijing.
