Solar support overwhelming across all parties

According to Hart Research Associates, the majority of potential voters in the upcoming presidential election support solar energy and government efforts promoting industry growth -- regardless of political affiliation. More than nine out of 10, or 92 percent, want the United States to be involved in the development and use of more solar energy. For the most part, political parties actually agreed with 84 percent of Republicans, 95 percent of independents, and 98 percent of Democrats in support of solar. Voter support of solar translates into widespread bipartisan support for federal incentives fostering solar energy. Nearly four out of five, or 78 percent, believe the government should provide tax credits and financial incentives to encourage the development and use of solar energy. Two-thirds, or 67 percent, of swing voters chose solar above any other energy source to receive tax and financial incentives. The research results also revealed that voters are unsure of the affordability of solar. Driven by advances in technology and innovations in financing, the average system price of solar has dropped 50 percent since 2007.
