Global improvements driving water utilities industry

Lucintel is predicting that global water utilities industry revenue will reach $432 billion in 2017 with a CAGR of 4.2 percent over the next five years, through 2017.

Revenue growth is expected to be driven through improvements in global economic conditions (especially in emerging economies),  increasing environmental concerns due to water pollution from the industrial and agricultural sectors and increasing investment in water infrastructure.

But the industry still faces challenges, including substantial losses due to the aging infrastructure and bridging the demand-supply gap.

Government regulations surrounding the carbon emissions reduction increases water demand for power generation. Technological advancement and operation efficiency in waste water treatment is expected to drive the market by reducing the industry's carbon footprint and saving the additional capital and operation required for further processing of emitted gas.
