Persian Gulf: Sea Mines Could Move the Needle in Favor of
Iran
Iran can use various types of sea mines to devastating effect in the
Persian Gulf and effectively close chokepoints in the Strait of Hormuz
without the need for a conventional naval blockade. While a traditional
blockade could be broken up in days, a mine-only scenario in the strait
could take much longer to clear as the shallow waters and narrow
passageway create ideal conditions for mine warfare.
