The Morning Brief - Lignet
Growth of Nuclear Energy to Drive
Up Price of Uranium
The Fukushima disaster two years ago was the latest in a series of
setbacks for the nuclear energy sector, and concerns over the safety of
nuclear power plants are now on the front burner. But nuclear energy is
not, as one might assume, on the wane. In fact, there has been
relentless growth in the demand for uranium as China, India and Russia
press ahead with their nuclear energy ambitions and Japan looks to
restart its reactors next year.

In an exclusive interview with LIGNET, North Korea expert Dr. Sung-Yoon
Lee says current tensions with North Korea are so high that they are
likely to result in some kind of North Korean attack or bombing,
possibly within a few days. Dr. Lee also discusses why the West has had
such difficulty in dealing with the North Korean regime and the policies

Iran’s Newest Warship to Tip Balance of Power in Caspian
The launch of Iran's newest destroyer, the Jamaran-2, brings a new
dimension to the naval arms race underway in the Caspian Sea. For
decades, Russia was the only nation to possess large multi-role warships
in the region. But the Jamaran-2 will change the power balance and poses
a serious threat to the smaller, former Soviet nations of Azerbaijan and
Turkmenistan.

Iranian Shadow Over Latin American Terror, Crime
Iran has joined self-declared U.S. enemies in the Western Hemisphere in
a bid to undermine the United States, charges U.S. ambassador to
Venezuela and Latin America expert Otto Reich, in an exclusive interview
with LIGNET. At first glance, it appears Tehran is simply opening
embassies and cultural centers in Latin America but, as LIGNET explains,
its dealings there are far more sinister.

North Korea: Potential for Conflict Rises After Stealth Bomber
Flights
North Korean threats made after two U.S. B-2 stealth bombers flew over
South Korea yesterday have raised tensions to a dangerously high level.
North Korea placed its rocket units on standby to fire on American bases
in South Korea and the Pacific after the B-2 flights. North Korean
leader Kim Jong Un responded by saying it is time "to settle accounts
with the U.S. imperialists." While the B-2 bomber flights were a
demonstration of U.S. military power and an attempt to stand up to North
Korea’s recent threats, LIGNET explains in this special analysis that
these flights probably were a mistake and increased the potential for
military conflict.

He?
The death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the election of
Argentina’s Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, as the new
leader of the Roman Catholic Church came only eight days apart in early
March, stunning the world and opening up new possibilities for Latin
America. Political consultant Dick Morris, who has worked extensively in
Latin America advising candidates, met then-Cardinal Bergoglio a few
years ago. Morris told LIGNET that he believes Chavez’s death combined
with Pope Francis’ elevation is a “game changer” for the region.

North Korea's Threat to Re-Start Nuke Plant Is a Bluff
North Korea made a predictable threat today to restart its disabled
Yongbyon nuclear reactor in a bid to further ratchet up tensions and
force concessions from the international community. LIGNET doubts North
Korea will go through with rebuilding this reactor and believes its
existing stockpile of up to 12 nuclear weapons is a more serious and
immediate threat.

Poland Referendum Could Threaten Euro Ambitions
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s decision to call for a referendum on
adopting the euro could easily backfire and push Poland further away
from the EU. But can he blame them for their reticence? With every
passing day and every new crisis related to the EU’s debt crisis, more
Europeans seem to be questioning the wisdom of the common currency.
LIGNET explains why Tusk is so anxious for Poland to be part of
something that may be unraveling.
