Nearly ALL Americans want GM food labeling

Abraham Lincoln said you can't fool all of the people all of the time. But I'd like to think that if ol' Abe was still around filling out that old stovepipe hat of his, he'd have this pearl of wisdom for those soulless food conglomerates trying to shove genetically modified (GM) food down our throats:

"You're not fooling ANY of the people ANY of the time."

A new survey from the New York Times shows that despite the millions that Big Food has spent trying to create a smokescreen around the potential dangers of GM foods, folks like you and me are still plenty fired up about the risks.

In a nationwide telephone poll of more than 1,000 adults, more than three-quarters of Americans said they were concerned about the number of GM foods on the market. And get this -- a whopping 93% said they support mandatory labeling of GM foods!

Let me ask you a question -- in this Red State vs. Blue State world we're living in, when was the last time 93% of the American people agreed on ANYTHING? But yet here we are, standing shoulder to shoulder, screaming in one loud, clear voice that we have a right to know when our food has been genetically modified.

Now let's hope the politicians will listen.

This is supposed to be a government by the people and for the people -- but somewhere along the way it seems we've become a government by the lobbyists and for the lobbyists. Big Food is shelling out a ton of cabbage to defeat GM labeling bills in more than two dozen states.

And they need to spend that cash because, let's face it GM foods don't exactly sell themselves. As we've told you in the past, GM foods have been linked to allergies, intestinal illnesses, and even cancer. And that's just what we know! Each year, science reveals more and more about the potential dangers of these Frankenfoods.

In fact, in the same New York Times survey, 26% of Americans said they were worried about the safety of GM foods (that number should be 100%, but they'll learn). That's the equivalent of every man, woman, and child in California, Texas, and New York COMBINED!

And still our government doesn't listen -- just this year, Congress passed a bill that goes so far in protecting Big Food that many folks have labeled it the Monsanto Protection Act!

The truth is we cannot and should not count on Big Government to keep us safe. Buy organic, local produce from a farmer you can look in the eye, and who understands your concern about GM crops. And take a moment to write your legislators and tell them to stop standing with Big Food, and start standing with the 93%!

Yours in good health,

Bob Reagan
