Preparedness checklist

If there’s one theme that seems to run through many of our articles on Off the Grid News, it’s that there is no blanket, one-size-fits-all preparedness checklist that fits everyone’s need. Some of you are city dwellers, and if things get tough, you really need a bug-out location to go to. Your storage capacity is limited and your homesteading capabilities are fairly non-existent.

If you live in the suburbs, your choices are little more versatile. You can stay or you can go, and you have more flexibility with a garden and some small animals—if you haven’t signed all your rights away in a homeowner’s association covenant. However, should societal breakdown occur, you’re still pretty close to the thick of things, and you may need an alternate location to get to.

If you live in the country, say down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, you’re really fortunate. You’ve probably been growing a garden most of your life already, and probably have a few chickens and ducks to boot. The only thing you may have to give consideration to is a water source (if you’ve tied yourself to community water) and adequate shelter against natural disasters.

All this to say that there is no one single route of preparedness that fits everyone. Everyone’s needs are different. Some people have sick or elderly relatives living with them that have to be taken into consideration; others are a free as birds and can leave at a moment’s notice. The thing is, each of us must take an inventory of our own lives and plan our preparedness resources and backups accordingly.

We’re here to help you with that. And if there are any articles you’d like to see us cover, please write in. We want to be responsive to your needs in you want to learn about.
