Stutzman expanding single-stream recycling line in Kansas

Stutzman Refuse Disposal, a subsidiary of Waste Connections Inc. in South Hutchinson, Kan., is expanding its single-stream recycling line, allowing the facility to completely process all materials on-site.

By adding a 13,000-square-foot building and a new sort line for rigid waste products, the company will be able to process material faster and turn out a cleaner product, the The Hutchinson News reported.

The company also expanded the paper line to allow for higher capacity.

Jim Spencer, Waste Connections' division manager for Kansas, told The Hutchinson News that until the expansion, rigid waste materials such as plastic bottles, milk jugs and aluminum and tin cans had to be transferred to a facility in Harvey County, for additional sorting and processing.

The company's inability to process everything under one roof was inefficient and not cost-effective, Spencer told the newspaper.
