WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) - The Oconee County Sheriff's Office is seeking two individuals who are suspected of robbing a man's house where one of them was shot while trying to escape, according to Oconee County deputies. Joshua Estes, 24, is wanted by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office for assault and battery in the first degree, burglary in the first degree and grand larceny, according to warrants. James Estes II, 30, is also being sought by deputies for grand larceny and burglary, according to warrants. According to deputies, a resident of Salem, SC, discovered two men robbing his home after he noticed tire tracks going into his backyard. The two suspects then claimed to be with the county and turned on a strobe light as they tried to leave the property in a Toyota 4Runner, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. The suspects swerved to try to hit the victim, who then fired one bullet into the suspect's vehicle, deputies said. The suspect's vehicle was later found with stolen property nearby by Pickens County deputies, said the release. Deputies said they ran the license plate on the vehicle and identified the owner as Joshua Estes of Hendersonville, NC. When deputies went to check the residence associated with the plate, they were advised that Joshua Estes was currently in the hospital being treated for a gunshot wound, according to the release. Joshua Estes was released from the hospital and deputies have issued an arrest warrant for him and James Estes II, deputies said. The stolen property was returned to the owner.
