For
many people, much of the effort invested in personal defense and
preparation has to do with surviving a violent confrontation by
any means necessary. I am a firm believer that we should all be
prepared to respond to a dangerous threat to the best of our
ability, but even preparation is no guarantee that you'll be
able to defeat an attacker. But there IS one guarantee that you
can bank on...
If you want to win a fight, avoid the fight altogether.
That's right; victory is only guaranteed if you avoid the fight
in the first place. But how do you do that? Simply, many
conflicts can be avoided entirely by using caution, common
sense, and instincts. I'm by no means suggesting that it's your
fault if you are attacked and can't possibly avoid it. Many
people are targeted and caught off guard by attackers, and it
would be insensitive to suggest that they all should have seen
it coming. That said, there are simple things we can do to avoid
physical conflicts.
The Zimmerman case is a prime example of this. Sure, he's been
found not guilty, but this entire thing could have been avoided
if he would have exercised more discernment and not put himself
in a potentially confrontational situation. Defending himself
with his gun became necessary only because he didn't use
discretion on the front end by not ever engaging Martin.
Hindsight is 20/20, and I don't mean to repeat unhelpful
rhetoric, but you understand the point I'm making.
At the end of the day, all that matters in the safety,
wellbeing, and prosperity of your loved ones, your community,
and your own person. The best way to ensure those blessings is
by avoiding danger in the first place.

and Stay Safe,
