IEA Says Ethanol Will Still Be the Dominant Biofuel in 2018

Biofuels will make up 4% of the world's road transportation fuel in 2018, when global biofuels output will rise to 2.36 million barrels per day, up from 1.86 million barrels per day in 2012, according to the International Energy Agency. Ethanol is predicted to retain its position as the top biofuel, accounting for 1.81 million barrels per day of global output in 2018. U.S. ethanol output will rise to 979,000 barrels per day, from 853,000 barrels per day this year. The production of advanced biofuels is expected to increase from 77,000 barrels per day in 2012 to 156,000 barrels per day in 2018.
