Let's root, root, root for ... recycling

Take me out to the ball game. To recycle.

The home of the Dayton (Ohio) Dragons, Fifth Third Field, is recycling about 15 tons of materials each month or 41% of the facility's total waste stream, according to Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc.

The Cincinnati-area based solid waste management company handles recyclables from the facility, which are processed at the company's local recycling center in Dayton.

The bulk of the material collected at the ballpark is cardboard from office and concession stand operations, but the total also includes about 3,000 pounds of cans, bottles and paper each month, Rumpke said.

To help promote recycling at the ballpark, the solid waste management company will have some of their vehicles in front of the stadium on Saturday. Folks will be able to sit in the vehicles and ask questions, the company said.
