Part-time Energy Manager Helps City Out of Fiscal Crisis

State College, PA, Jul 10, 2013 -- PRWeb.com

A new case study by EnergyCAP, Inc. reveals how the City of Bernardino's part-time energy manager saved dollars and water resources for the City in the midst of gloomy economic conditions. In 2012, four California cities declared a fiscal emergency and/or filed for bankruptcy, but Energy Manager Susan Davis offers a silver lining in the fiscal crisis.

Davis might seem an unlikely hero. She was originally hired by the City of San Bernardino in 2002 as an accounting clerk, and after several promotions, she now serves as a departmental accounting technician. But as a result of her efforts, San Bernardino has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money assistance, and identified facilities and equipment that were wasting the City's electricity and water.

Responsible for managing and paying the City's utility bills (nearly 3,000/month), Davis had to assume additional responsibilities in energy management due to personnel changes compounded by San Bernardino's fiscal difficulties.

After a crash course in energy management software provided by EnergyCAP's implementation staff, Davis was able to catch up on several months of the City's utility bill history. Once data was in the system, she was able to aggregate 10 years of utility bill history, which she used to secure a $375,000 grant to retrofit city lights.

The EnergyCAP software also helped Davis spot use/cost spikes associated with an irrigation pump. A timely repair saved the City thousands of dollars and precious water resources. The full case study and infographic are available at http://www.EnergyCAP.com/sanbernardino.
