US coal production rises 1.6% year on year in week that ended

US coal production totaled about 20.0 million st in the week that
ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.
This production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 2% higher than
the previous week's estimate and 1.6% above the estimate for the
comparable week in 2012, EIA said.
Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 7.6 million st in
the most recent week, while output west of the Mississippi was 12.4
million st, the agency said.
US year-to-date coal production totaled 542.8 million st, 3.8% lower
than in the comparable period in 2012, EIA said.
